Melbourne Innovation-led Entrepreneurship Project
The Melbourne Innovation-led Entrepreneurship Project is a structured, globally-linked, two-year project that brings together multiple organisations from the Melbourne innovation ecosystem to develop and deploy strategies for rapid acceleration of innovation-driven entrepreneurship initiatives. Action oriented and broadly inclusive, the project aims to deliver economic and social gains in the form of jobs, growth, economic dynamism and public value, and is led by the core MID partners.
The project aims to invigorate, intensify and build a vibrant enterprise activation capability across the city to:
- generate and deploy actionable strategies;
- design and activate new institutional forms and collaborations; and
- foster capabilities, skills and development pathways
- rapidly and innovatively accelerate and scale entrepreneurial and technology-enabled enterprise activation.
The distinctive idea behind the the novel use of the concept of ‘enterprise activation’ as its launching pad – drawing together the social economy, Melbourne’s tech and knowledge-development system with the more ‘conventional’ startup ecosystem to create initiatives and impact that have broad effect and that are truly greater than the sum of its parts.
The Melbourne Innovation-led Entrepreneurship Project and the innovation district in the city north have been selected as a site for the 2017 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program, and have also been partnered with London’s entrepreneurship acceleration initiative through that program.
